It's amazing how a simple home-cooked dinner can spark a great idea that changes lives. That's exactly what happened in 2018 when Joel and Rashida Brown welcomed KIPP Philadelphia Charter School alums attending Lincoln University for a meal. During their conversations, they realized that these young people needed support throughout their college journey. Many of the students were the first in their families to attend college and needed guidance, encouragement, mentorship, and financial support for essentials. Joel and Rashida were inspired by this experience to create an annual scholarship and events for the students.
Fast forward to 2022, and the Brojora Foundation was founded as a charitable 501(c)(3) and tax-exempt organization. This foundation will continue its mission of awarding scholarships and mentoring the next generation of leaders. Since relocating to Delaware, Joel and Rashida have expanded their reach to serve other communities. Their dedication to helping others is truly inspiring, and the impact of their work will be felt for generations.
Today, the Brojora Foundation continues to grow its impact by supporting students through scholarships, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. The foundation works closely with scholars to ensure they are not only financially supported but also equipped with the tools and confidence needed to navigate college and prepare for their future careers.
Through workshops, networking events, and one-on-one mentorship, Brojora provides students with access to resources that promote both personal and professional growth. Recent initiatives have focused on building essential skills such as creating strong LinkedIn profiles, developing executive presence, and preparing for internships and career opportunities. These experiences help bridge the gap between education and the workforce.
In addition, Brojora continues to strengthen its community partnerships and expand its reach through fundraising initiatives, scholarship campaigns, and engagement with supporters who believe in the mission.
